ARC Advisory Group research report highlights our InSite Managed Services

Paper describes how our managed services help reduce costs to manage and support manufacturing technology infrastructure.

Leading industry analyst ARC Advisory Group recently released a research report highlighting our approach to outsourced maintenance and operations services through our InSite Managed Services. The suite of Rockwell Automation InSite™ Services helps manufacturers reduce costs, improve organizational performance, and increase system uptime and operating cash flow.

The report, “Rockwell Automation InSite Managed Services Offers Seamless Extension to End User’s Staff,” was written by Research Director Craig Resnick and released in February 2010. It describes the benefits to manufacturers of leveraging an automation supplier’s service personnel, outlines the five service components that comprise InSite Services, and provides a case study of an InSite customer.

“The shift to a services-intensive automation marketplace has come about because of the wave of workforce downsizing that has occurred, combined with the increasing support and costs associated with optimizing automation systems and automation infrastructure,” Resnick said in the report. “The next transformation for the services business is that of establishing automation supplier’s service personnel as a seamless extension of the end-users staff, a service provided by Rockwell Automation InSite Managed Services.”

The report goes on to describe the business case for why end users should consider purchasing services from automation suppliers. “End users no longer have the time or resources to deal with the many different automation and enterprise suppliers on a project,” said Resnick. “Automation suppliers not only have deep product and application knowledge for their own solutions, but also their knowledge of competitive offerings has increased exponentially as part of their services focus on competitive migration projects.”

Our InSite Services allow manufacturers to select and configure five managed service capabilities to create a life-cycle management strategy that meets their needs and helps reduce costs. These capabilities include:
• Surveillance – Remote, near real-time system monitoring
• Diagnostics – System analysis, troubleshooting and issue correction
• Knowledge Management – Ongoing management of knowledge cases and documents
• Administration – Life-cycle application and system management
• Optimization – System performance improvement and development services

“This report points out how Rockwell Automation helps our customers reduce costs through a variety of managed services,” said Steve Carlson, product manager, InSite Services, Rockwell Automation. “As manufacturers continue to operate with fewer internal resources and tighter budgets, InSite Managed Services provide an opportunity to maintain or even improve the service level required to keep sites and systems running smoothly.”
